About TISLEP
TISLEP has been a 1-day summit, in existence for 10 years, affiliated with the ICRE conference and successful in drawing 68-88 participants per year. We have produced papers and educational modules for leadership in medical education which are widely available online for free. This year's summit is focusing on AI in Healthcare Leadership.
Conference Objectives
Discuss the benefits and threats involved as AI is incorporated into healthcare and health professions education
Outline ways that health professions education can incorporate AI while maintaining its ethical core
Suggest initial frameworks that can help learners and faculty use AI ethically in healthcare and health professions education
2024 Summit
No system is perfect, but healthcare rests on a framework of ethics that is well accepted. AI consists of a group of powerful and ubiquitous tools that are accessible to institutions and individuals. AI is changing healthcare education and practice, potentially disrupting the ethics built into our current systems. Unguided adoption of AI could magnify biases and power differentials, as well as threaten privacy and security. Faculty will themselves be challenged to first learn and use AI and then find new ways to teach learners. The incorporation of AI has been rapid. To serve communities, patients, caregivers, learners, and ourselves, we must quickly and responsibly design strategies to lead the ethical incorporation of AI into systems of healthcare and education.
This year, we are preparing for 150 registrants. The theme is Intelligent Leadership: Ethical Integration of AI in Health Education. We are arranging 2 keynote speakers, one who is an expert on ethics in medicine, and the other who is an expert on artificial intelligence.
The panel will include leaders in UGME and PGME, the AI expert, and a knowledgeable patient representative.
Workshops will be designed to get participants to discuss and generate ideas and guidelines towards the theme, with the aim of preparing a publication on how national bodies, schools and institutions can quickly set themselves to the task of educational change
in a way that aligns with the values and principles that societies and healthcare professionals hold dear.
We are engaging leaders in healthcare education, AI research in medicine and also in the AI industry and those responsible for the systems that support healthcare now, such as the hospital leadership and the IT sector in medicine.
By bringing leaders and changemakers together in one room, TISLEP 2024 will spark a coordinated approach to how we design medical education that incorporates AI in a timely manner.
